The Storm Prediction Center has heightened the risk of severe weather in the Wichita Falls area today. Wichita Falls and a large swath of North Texas is at Slight Risk of severe storms this afternoon and tonight.
The region just west of the city is at Enhanced Risk and extends south and east covering an area from the Big Bend through Waco, Austin and San Antonio.
The SPC says the greatest threat today will be supercell thunderstorms capable of producing rain, large hail, and strong winds. The center says “a couple of tornadoes” will be possible.
As the storm system moves east early Sunday, East Texas will be under the gun early in the day and a threat of a significant severe weather outbreak exists in the South, especially in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
The SPC is concerned that strong, long-tracked tornadoes may occur in that region.
