Severe weather could bring waves of storms, damaging winds, heavy rain and the risk of isolated tornadoes to the D.C. region on Monday.
Storm Team4 Meteorologist Chuck Bell says early rounds of blinding rain moved south of D.C. early Monday. Between 6 a.m. and noon, a cold front could generate severe storms and the threat of tornadoes.
Strong winds could take down trees and cause power outages even when storms aren't active in the area. A high wind warning is in effect for some counties in Maryland and Virginia, including Prince George's County, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Winds will gust up to 60 mph.
The rest of the area is under a wind advisory from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday for winds as fast as 55 mph. See all weather alerts here.
Bell says the sun is likely to come out during the afternoon and warm things up to near 80. Then, another wave of scattered thunderstorms is possible in the mid- to late afternoon.
The severe weather threat will diminish through Monday evening.
