Flyweight MMA fighter Ryan Curtis suffered serious back, neck and spine injuries during a training session on Thursday.

The incident was revealed in an Instagram post by fellow MMA fighter Leah McCourt on Saturday. The injuries are severe enough that Curtis will not be able to fight or train in MMA again, per McCourt.

"Ryan has suffered a broken back, broken neck and dislocated spine," she wrote in the caption of the post. "During this injury, trauma was also caused to Ryan's spinal cord. The damage is classified as the most severe that can happen to a spinal cord. He was rushed to the Royal in Belfast and underwent emergency surgery."

"Currently Ryan has no movement in his legs or his left arm," she added.

Curtis is expected to stay at least five months in the hospital, which will then be followed by an unknown amount of time spent with a specialist spinal team.

"There is no exact end date to when this treatment will be complete," wrote McCourt.

Curtis was set to face Italian fighter Davide Scarano for the Cage Conflict title on Feb. 24. He owns a record of 5-4, with three of his victories occurring via knockout. Curtis' last bout was against Nicolas Leblond on April 29.
