HESPERIA, Calif. – Motorists on Interstate 15 in Hesperia experienced significant delays as a series of traffic incidents unfolded on both the northbound and southbound lanes on January 20, 2024.
A vehicle stalled in the fast lane of the southbound I-15 at approximately 4:29 p.m. According to the California Highway Patrol logs, the car became motionless just north of Oak Hill Road, triggering congestion.
However, the potentially dangerous situation was mitigated by an individual who quickly, and safely, managed to push the disabled vehicle off the freeway using the adjacent offramp and their vehicle.
Only minutes later, at 4:31 p.m., an accident occurred on the northbound 15 freeway, north of Highway 395 when a white Chevy Silverado towing a trailer lost control and spun out. The truck came to a halt facing the opposite direction in the fast lane, adding to the afternoon’s traffic woes.
At 4:57 p.m., an additional incident occurred in the westbound direction of Highway 138, approximately two miles east of the intersection with the 15 freeway. Reportedly, both involved vehicles were situated on the right-hand shoulder of the road.
Earlier in the day, southbound lanes of the I-15 were already subject to a slowdown due to a motorhome catching fire. A Sigalert was issued shortly after noon on Saturday, warning travelers of the obstruction and advising them to expect delays.
As a result of these incidents, drivers encountered stop-and-go traffic and faced an estimated additional 10 minutes of travel time as reported by Sigalert.com at 5 p.m.
The CHP and emergency services were actively managing the situation and working to clear the obstructions as quickly as possible to restore normal traffic flow.
No injuries were sustained during the incidents, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Commuters are advised to exercise caution when traveling through the area and to seek alternate routes if possible.
