Severe Risk for Florida Saturday - WeatherNation

Strong storms prompted a tornado warning outside of the Houston metro early Friday morning. More severe weather will be possible Saturday for the Gulf Coast, as a powerful low pressure system makes its way out of the central Plains and sweeps across the country. Meanwhile, this weather system will bring rain for the Gulf, ice for the Mid-Atlantic and snow in the Northeast.

Strong storms are expected to sweep across Florida, mainly in the morning and early afternoon for Central Florida, with storms lingering this evening and into early Sunday in South Florida.

Damaging winds and a few tornadoes (or waterspouts) are possible, particularly in SW Florida where the SPC has upgraded the risk (brown region below).

Rainfall totals with this round are expected to generally be heavier than the mid-week system. A couple of inches can be expected along the Gulf and into the Carolinas. The rainfall is needed, especially through Louisiana and Mississippi where we are still dealing with extreme and exceptional drought conditions. Locally heavy rainfall looks likely for the central Florida panhandle.
