WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Meteorologist Jake Dunne says last night’s showers and storms have come and gone, and it is a relatively quiet start to our Friday. Wake-up temperatures in the 50s and 60s will soar into the 80s and 90s under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.
Our weather worry today is the wind. A south breeze between 25-40 mph will occasionally gust over 50 mph creating extreme to catastrophic wildfire conditions, especially over far western Kansas where humidity will be low, and temperatures will be high.
A cold front will begin moving across the state tonight setting the stage for severe storms over central and western Kansas. The main concern is damaging wind gusts followed by large hail and most of the storms will stay west of a Russell to Pratt line tonight.
As the cold front continues moving east on Saturday, the risk of severe storms will slide into eastern Kansas, mainly along and east of I-135. The main concern on Saturday afternoon and evening is damaging wind and heavy rainfall.
Quiet and cooler weather comes back to Kansas on Sunday and should remain in place into early next week.
