Severe weather will be possible in Alabama for three days straight starting on Monday.
All severe weather hazards will be possible, including tornadoes, damaging winds, hail and heavy rain.
Not all of the state will face the risk of severe storms each day.
Monday’s severe weather outlook from the Storm Prediction Center is above.
It shows a marginal risk for severe storms in just southwest Alabama. A marginal risk is Level 1 out of the 5 severe weather risk levels and means that isolated severe storms will be possible.
The western half of Alabama could also see rain and a few storms, but severe weather isn’t expected in the rest of the state.
The National Weather Service in Mobile said wind gusts up to 60 mph, tornadoes and hail will be possible across its forecast area in southwest Alabama. Its forecast differs slightly from the Storm Prediction Center. The weather service has a slight risk, or Level 2 out of 5, across all of southwest Alabama:
Forecasters in Mobile said storms will be possible on Monday night and could last into Tuesday morning. More storms will be possible during the afternoon on Tuesday.
Speaking of Tuesday, the Storm Prediction Center has all of south Alabama in a Level 2, or slight, risk for severe weather. Nearly all of the rest of the state (except for part of north Alabama) has a marginal risk as well (Level 1).
Here’s Tuesday’s severe weather outlook:
The weather service expects a warm front to lift northward across the state on Tuesday, bringing in warm, moist air and raising the potential for a scattered strong storms to develop. There will be a wide-ranging timeframe for storms on Tuesday, but they will be most likely during the afternoon prime-heating hours.
Severe weather isn’t a sure thing, forecasters said, but if storms do form they could become intense. Heavy rain will also be possible.
More storms will be possible statewide on Wednesday as a strong cold front moves through the state.
Here’s Wednesday’s severe weather outlook:
The Storm Prediction Center has all of Alabama in a generalized risk for severe weather on Wednesday. Again all forms of severe weather will be possible, including damaging winds, hail, tornadoes and heavy rain.
The prime window for storms looks to be Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night.
Several inches of rain will be possible in some areas, which means the weather service will be on guard for flash flooding.
The front will sweep out the rain and storms, and drier and cooler weather is expected for Alabama starting on Thursday.
