Severe storms began to batter Alabama on Wednesday afternoon, toppling trees and power lines and damaging a church and a university dorm building.
One person was injured, according to University of Montevallo police.
In Bibb County, one person was injured in Ashby as a manufactured home was overturned, according to the weather service.
The severe weather continued into the early hours of Thursday morning, with hurricane-force winds, hail, tornadoes and flooding rain all possibilities.

In Vestavia Hills, a roof was damaged when a tree hit it and landed nearby:

On I-65 at Greensprings Avenue, a power line was down blocking about three-quarters of the interstate, according to police radio traffic:
In Hoover, winds sparked a brush fire near the City Heights apartment complex off Lorna Road. No buildings were involved, but there was enough thermal damage that families in 26 units had to be displaced, according to Hoover Fire Department Division Chief and spokesman Duane Prater:
In north Alabama, a tree was uprooted by high winds in Florence:
In Athens, high winds mangled the roof of this building:
In Limestone County, the Emergency Management Agency reported a tree fell on a mobile home.
Damage to structures was also reported.
In Brent, a church sustained damage to its facade:
In west Alabama, a tornado hit near Livingston, in Sumter County, where damage included snapped trees:
A tornado also tore through Marengo County, leaving behind a trail of debris:
In southwest Alabama, near Gilbertown in Choctaw County, several trees were downed by the wind:
Also near Gilbertown, South Choctaw High School sustained damage, according to the National Weather Service’s Mobile office, which cited reports from the Choctaw County Emergency Management Agency. Snapped trees and power lines were seen on both sides of Highway 17:
Late Wednesday night, a student dorm at the University of Montevallo sustained damage from a tornado:
In Baldwin County, a downed tree came inches away from damaging a nearby truck:
