PEORIA (Heart of Illinois ABC) - Mostly sunny start Tuesday, but it won’t last long as we’ll have increasing clouds through the afternoon. Winds will also be breezy, gusting up to 30 mph in the afternoon and increasing up to 40 mph in the late evening. Highs will be mild and above average near 70 degrees.

The increasing winds arrive ahead of a system that will bring showers and storms Wednesday. The threat for severe weather is also in play with this arriving system. Showers and storms look to start early Wednesday, but remaining scattered and not severe, but possibly strong. The first line of storms looks to arrive around 5 AM and begin to break apart, bringing a lull in the activity in the late morning.

Daytime heating will provide the energy needed to spark the severe weather threat in the afternoon. More storms look to develop after 1 PM, both individually, then becoming more linear as the system tracks east. The entire viewing area is at risk for severe weather, and areas along and near the I-55 corridor have even higher chances to see these severe storms develop.

The main time frame as of now looks to be between 1 PM through 8 PM Wednesday for possible severe storms. The primary threat is the strong winds that can gust up to 60-75 mph within these embedded storms, along with large hail up to 1-2 inches, a few possible tornadoes, and some flash flooding given where these storms develop.
