All of Alabama could see strong to even severe storms today, according to forecasters.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has added a slight risk (Level 2 out of 5) for parts of north and west Alabama, which means scattered severe storms will be possible.
The rest of Alabama has a marginal risk (Level 1) which means scattered severe storms will be possible.
Rain was ongoing over part of the state on Thursday morning, but the National Weather Service thinks the best chance for stronger storms will come during the afternoon hours, from roughly 2 p.m. onward into the evening.
Here’s a different look at the morning storms:
The strongest storms could contain wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail, heavy rain and lightning.
A pesky upper low spinning to the west over Arkansas continues to bring heightened rain and storm chances to Alabama today.
That low is expected to weaken and slide slowly eastward today and could spawn more storms — some of which could become severe, according to the weather service.
What’s left of the upper low will move east of Alabama by Sunday and bring drier weather through the first part of next week.
