Periods of showers and storms continue across Minnesota Tuesday, bringing an elevated risk for severe weather in southeastern Minnesota. Outside of storms, the weather remains mostly cloudy, humid and warm.

Tuesday morning is starting off very mild, with most of the state in the 60s. It will stay mostly cloudy, humid, and warm through the day, with highs in the 70s for most of the state, and a few 80s southeast.

The entire state is likely to see showers and storms again, and already Tuesday morning, there is a more widespread area of rain in northwestern Minnesota.

That band will continue east, bringing very needed rain across the northern tier of the state. Much of northern Minnesota could get around a quarter inch of rain.

Showers and storms that develop across southern, and especially southeastern Minnesota will likely bring even higher rain totals, with some amount over an inch possible. Some of the southeastern storms could also become severe, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours, including the risk for a couple tornadoes to develop.

The weather pattern becomes drier and less active for most of Minnesota by Wednesday. That extended forecast will be updated around 9 a.m.
