School closures ahead of possible severe weather - WXXV News 25

Some schools in South Mississippi are closing due to possible severe weather headed our way.

The Hancock County School District is closing schools tomorrow, August 24th. This will also include distance learners.

The Gulfport School District will run a 60% Day on Monday, August 24, 2020. District personnel will assess roads and winds tomorrow morning – if there is a need to close for the entire day, the announcement will be made before 5:30 a.m.

Closure Times

Elementary Schools – 11:30 a.m.

Middle Schools – 12:00 noon

High Schools – 12:30 p.m.

Ocean Springs School District has elected to operate on a 60 percent day schedule on Monday, August 24th, 2020. All extracurricular events and activities are canceled. The dismissal times for students are as follows:

Oak Park, Pecan Park, & Magnolia Park – 11:40 a.m.

Ocean Springs Upper Elementary – 11:25 a.m.

E.H. Keys AEC – 12:25 p.m.

Ocean Springs Middle School – 12:35 p.m.

Ocean Springs High School – 12:57 p.m.

Biloxi public schools announced school closures tomorrow for Monday August 24th. At this time, school is scheduled to resume as normal on Tuesday August 25th. Plans are fluid, so please monitor email, and the school district website for any future changes or updates.

St. Patrick Catholic High School will be closed Monday, August 24, due to severe weather surrounding Hurricane Marco.  There will be no in-person or virtual classes.  We will continue to monitor the weather situation closely and update everyone about Tuesday as soon as possible.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College announced they will close all campuses and centers Monday, August 24th. All instruction will continue online. Dorms will remain open; however, students are encouraged to remain home until classes resume in person.

Long Beach School District has cancelled all in person and online classes, and all activities for Monday, August 24th.

All online and in person classes at Coast Episcopal School are cancelled for Monday, August 24th, 2020.

The Jackson County School District announced no school for Monday, August 24th for  students and employees.

All schools in the Harrison County School District will be closed on Monday, August 24, 2020, due to Hurricane Marco.

The Pass Christian Public School District will be closed tomorrow, Monday, August 24.

Christian Collegiate Academy will also close their facility August 24th.

William Carey University will close its Tradition campus and classes are cancelled for Monday and offices are closed as well. On the Baton Rouge campus, classes are cancelled and offices are closed for Monday and Tuesday. On the Hattiesburg campus, offices will be open and classes will meet as scheduled. A further announcement will be made about Monday night classes by mid-day.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s in-person operations on the Gulf Coast, including the Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach, the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs, the Marine Research Center in Gulfport, and at Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, will be closed on Monday, August 24, in anticipation of potential severe weather related to Hurricane Marco. All online course delivery and remote work will continue. Hattiesburg campus in-person operations are expected to proceed as scheduled.

The George County School District will be closed Monday, August 24 for all students and staff.  All extracurricular activities will also be cancelled for Monday, August 24. Please be mindful that additional announcements may be made later in the week regarding the status of schools on Tuesday and Wednesday.

We will continue to monitor the weather for any possible extension to the current closure.
