Severe weather watches and warnings have been issued in Mississippi as Hurricane Laura continues to move north through Louisiana.
10:20 a.m. update
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Pike County effective immediately. Radar has indicated rotation and the storm is expected to strike Magnolia at 10:25, McComb at 10:35 and Summit at 10:40 a.m. Those in the path are urged to take cover.
The National Weather Service has issued tornado watches effective until 4 p.m. in the following counties:
- Adams
- Amite
- Bolivar
- Claiborne
- Coahoma
- Copiah
- Franklin
- Hinds
- Holmes
- Humphreys
- Issaquena
- Jefferson
- Jefferson Davis
- Lawrence
- Leflore
- Lincoln
- Madison
- Marion
- Pike
- Rankin
- Sharkey
- Simpson
- Sunflower
- Walthall
- Warren
- Washington
- Wilkinson
- Yazoo
According to the NWS, south Mississippi could be impacted by flooding throughout the morning. An alert has also been issued for strong thunderstorms with winds up to 50 mph in Amite and Wilkinson counties effective until 9:45 a.m. today.
Amite, Pike and Wilkinson counties are also under a flash-flood watch until 7 p.m. today. A wind advisory has been issued for Amite and Wilkinson counties as well with expected winds of 25-30 mph and frequent gusts up to 45 mph until 7 pm.
