Rain on Friday plus cooler temperatures and possible rain Saturday have helped temporarily slow the growth of the Cameron Peak Fire.

The fire is now reported at 23,007 acres as of Saturday morning, a growth of less than 50 acres from Friday.

There was 1/4 inch of rainfall recorded on the fire Friday, helping moderate fire activity. Saturday's conditions are expected to be similar to Friday, according to a news release from the incident management team.

"There is a high probability of wetting rains on the fire area. High temperatures will be expected in the mid 70’s with a relative humidity of around 30%," the release said. "This will increase our chances of seeing minimal fire behavior again today. Easterly winds are expected to be 10-15 mph."

Sunday could be what firefighters call a "heads up" day with gusty, westerly winds expected to reach up to 35 mph as a cold front moves into the area.

There are no new road closures or evacuations from the fire.

Fire crews continue to prep fire lines north of Deadman Road. Work on the Manhattan Road is complete, and crews are scouting the area for locations to build additional fire line.

Structure protection measures have been completed along the Pingree Park Road from the CSU Mountain Campus to Highway 14. The dozer line from Crown Point Road through Dadd Gulch has also been completed.

The original cause of the fire remains under investigation.
