Eversource: Crews ready for today’s severe weather - CTPost

Eversource says it’s ready for potential outages from the strong thunderstorms, high winds and possible hail expected on Thursday afternoon.

Eversource posted on its social media sites that “crews will be prepositioned around the state and ready to respond to any damage and outages, while operating under our strict COVID-19 pandemic plan.

“Our warehouses have been replenished with supplies since Isaias so crews have the materials they need,” the company said.

Eversource has come under fire in recent weeks after its response in restoring power to about 1 million customers after Isaias struck the state on Aug. 5.

On Monday, Eversource managers confirmed during a daylong hearing that Connecticut electricity customers are paying $124 million more than what the utility projected for electricity generated this year by the Millstone nuclear power plant.

In short, the grid saw a drop in electric load this summer but customers did not see a corresponding decrease in their energy bills.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to a spike in home electricity use this summer as stay-at-home workers kept air conditioners going during successive heat waves. But the overall New England grid saw a drop due to offices and other commercial facilities ratcheting down power consumption.
