Late day storms likely and some could be severe - KAKE

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Multiple rounds of rain on the way for KAKEland Thursday. Round one is light and tame and slides east across the state during the morning hours. Round two and possibly three occur during the afternoon through the overnight and some of them could be strong and potentially severe with large hail being the most likely threat.

A dry line and cold front setup will be monitored through the afternoon and into the overnight across the eastern half of the state of Kansas. During the afternoon, a dry line is expected to be oriented north and south somewhere in the vicinity of US-183. While a few showers and storms will be possible along this line the more likely region for development will be along the approaching cold front. The best ingredients for severe weather will be best in extreme South Central Kansas. It is in this zone where large hail stones, potentially up to 2", will be possible. In addition to large hail, high wind gusts to around 60mph will be possible. While we can't completely rule out a tornado, the threat appears to be very low in KAKEland.

Showers and storms will be possible in Wichita along this front and while they might be on the strong side with gusty wind, they are not anticipated to be overly severe. The showers and storms will slide out of KAKEland tonight making way for a breezy, bright and somewhat cooler day for Friday.
