The Cameron Peak Fire continues to burn near northern Colorado's Poudre Canyon Sunday.

The fire is exhibiting extreme fire behavior, according to Paul Hohn, an operations chief for the Blue Team of Rocky Mountain Incident Command, and it continues to roll smoke into northern Front Range cities.

Extreme fire growth Saturday was driven by wind, heavy fuels and steep terrain, Hohn said. It's making it impossible to directly engage with the fire.

Here's the short story on we know about the Cameron Peak Fire:

How big is the Cameron Peak Fire?

The fire grew to 12,124 acres Sunday afternoon and has zero containment, according to InciWeb, the virtual incident information system that tracks wildfires across the nation.

The fire is staffed by a total of 108 people as of Sunday afternoon.

What damage has the fire near Poudre Canyon caused?

No structures or campgrounds have been damaged, according to a Sunday update from the Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team.

Helicopters, crews fighting the fire

The focus Sunday will be protecting structures and removing nearby fuels.

There are four Type 1 helicopters, one Type 2 helicopter and one Type 3 helicopter working the fire.

When did the fire start?

The fire started Aug. 13 on the Arapaho and Roosevelt national forests near Cameron Pass and Chambers Lake. A Type 2 Rocky Mountain Incident Management Blue Team took over management of the fire on Saturday.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Where is the Cameron Peak Fire?

The fire is about 15 miles southwest of Red Feather Lakes, 40 miles northwest of Fort Collins, and 14 miles west of Colorado State University's Mountain Campus.

The fire is burning partially on the Rawah Wilderness and in the Roosevelt National Forest.

Mapping showed the fire has crossed over Colorado Highway 14 in two spots.

Where are closures?

Colorado Highway 14 from Rustic to Gould is closed, along with Laramie River Road north of Colorado 14.

The national forest is closed generally within the borders of Pingree Park Road, Manhattan Road, Deadman Road and the western forest boundary.
