The set-up is right for a quick moving line of severe thunderstorms to move across the southwest corner of Lower Michigan. The Storm Prediction Center outlines exactly where we can expect the severe storms.
The best way to know where storms could get nasty is to look at the forecast from the Storm Prediction Center.
The yellow area of southwest Lower is the area that might get clipped by a line of severe thunderstorms.
Here’s the radar forecast showing that forecasted line of storms.
The line of storms should weaken in the late evening and overnight as the storms move to southeast Michigan. So right now severe storms are not anticipated in Ann Arbor and Detroit.
The biggest threat with a line of storms is a quick straight-line wind gust.
The tornado threat is in the forecast just below. Fortunately Michigan has not been places in any meaningful chance of a tornado.
The hail forecast below shows it’s not a concern either.
Here’s the always updated radar, so you can monitor the development of the line of storms.
This is what I call a “common-sense severe weather outbreak.” If the sky gets dark to your west in early evening, and look ominous, get into your house. Stay away from the windows, and you will be safe in today’s storms.
Watch for live severe weather coverage on the MLive Facebook page if the storms get dangerous. If the storms are strong but don’t warrant continuous, live severe weather coverage, join the Michigan Weather Facebook page. We all get together there to share weather info.
