Note: Lone Peak finished with a 4-10 overall record in 2019 and was tied for fifth in Region 4 with a 1-4 record. It was RPI seed No. 20 in 6A playoffs, and was eliminated by Corner Canyon 34-7 in semifinals.
HIGHLAND — Armed with what looks to be experienced and deep line play, Lone Peak coach Bart Brockbank is confident in filling in the other gaps and fielding yet another top team for 2020.
Expectations are always sky high at Lone Peak, and for good reason, considering the program’s stellar returns over the year. This year, despite the loss of several notable starters, expectations are largely the same, with Lone Peak coach Bart Brockbank confident his players can yet again forge a productive season.
“We’ve been fortunate to have some really good kids within our program who make it pretty easy for us coaches,” Brockbank said. “So this year — yeah, we lost some really good players, but I really like what’s coming back and the new guys ready to take on bigger roles.”
Top players seem to roll in and roll out of Lone Peak with every season, helping build one of the most consistently strong programs in the state. This season the Knights should prove strongest along the offensive and defensive lines, when in past years it’s largely been the skill position players who have carried the load.
“We really like the guys we have on both sides of the line,” Brockbank said. “I feel we were strong there last year, too, and our coaches have done a great job developing deep and really strong lines, which should help us out a ton.”

“It put us behind. No question, but I think that’s largely the case for everyone. But kids have remained optimistic over theswe truly weird past months, and I’m easily going to assume it’s probably even going to get weirder during the season. But kids are excited and willing to do whatever it takes to play and finish out the season.”

“We just need to find a good running back and have some receivers step up, and we should be fine. I really like our offensive line. Most of those guys have a lot of experience and we’re bigger than we usually are on the offensive line. That should be a big thing for us, along with returning our starter at quarterback.”

“We lost some really good players on defense, and those guys may be tougher to replace than a lot of the guys we lost on offense, to be honest. Still, I like our line a lot and we do have a lot of talent coming back, along with guys ready to fill key spots.”
Deseret News outlook for 2020
Lone Peak should be right there at the end, playing at Rice-Eccles Stadium, much like they usually are every season. Talent level is always high within the program, and with line play taking the lead, it could only work to bolster the Knights’ chances. Still, the competition level is very high in 6A, and will be a challenge for anyone to overcome, even for a team as talented as Lone Peak.
