As firefighters try to get the Cameron Peak fire under control they are asking weekend outdoors fans to avoid the Poudre Canyon, Red Feather Lakes and other recreational areas.
The fire, which started Thursday afternoon, burned 1,537 acres in Larimer County, according to fire incident website. The fire is burning 25 miles east of Walden and 15 miles southwest of Red Feather Lakes.
“Fire Managers will be putting a closure order in place this morning for #CameronPeakFire area that will affect camping and hiking activities. Please continue to check the latest information before you head out for your weekend plans,” the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office tweeted Friday morning.
Already, campgrounds in the area have been evacuated.
On Friday morning, the Larimer sheriff asked people to avoid the Crown Point area, Long Draw area, areas west of Red Feather and south of Deadman, and the southern end of the Laramie River Valley, according to a Facebook post.

More than 70 firefighters are working the Cameron Peak fire, and authorities sent a higher level firefighting team to help manage it.
The cause is unknown and remains under investigation.
