CHICAGO — It’s expected to be a rainy and dangerously warm week for Chicago.
Periodic storms are expected through at least the first part of the week, and some of them will be severe with heavy rains, according to the National Weather Service. It’ll also be warm and very humid, with heat indices over 100 degrees expected in many areas during the afternoon. There could be particularly dangerous heat Tuesday.
Monday has a 50 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms. The day will be mostly cloudy, and it’s expected to get as warm as 84 degrees. Wind gusts could hit 30 mph, according to the weather agency.
The National Weather Service released a hazardous weather outlook for the week, noting there’s an elevated thunderstorm risk Monday along with a limited risk for tornadoes, damaging high winds up to 70 mph, hail up to half-dollar size and flooding.
“Severe thunderstorms are possible across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana late this afternoon into this evening, with a threat for damaging winds, large hail, and a tornado or two,” according to the weather agency. “The threat will switch to a period of locally heavy rainfall and flooding in the late evening and overnight.”
Tuesday will heat up to a potentially dangerous level, as the expected high temperature is 92 degrees. The day will be very humid and will feel like it’s up to 102 degrees outside, according to the National Weather Service. There’s a chance for rain in the afternoon, but the day is expected to be mostly sunny with wind gusts up to 20 mph.
The agency’s hazardous weather outlook warns Tuesday has an elevated excessive heat risk, on top of limited risks for severe thunderstorms and flooding.
Wednesday will cool off only slightly, as it’s expected to be 90 degrees in the city but remain humid. There is a chance for more rain, but the day will be partly sunny with wind gusts up to 20 mph possible.

Thursday has another chance for rain and thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. It’ll be sunny with an expected high temperature of 90 degrees.

Friday is expected to be sunny — but it’ll cool down, with a high temperature of 78 degrees, according to the weather agency.
