The weather service said the system moving through the Midwest once was Tropical Storm Cristobal. Illinois is about as far northwest as an Atlantic Basin tropical storm can travel, and it has happened at least 16 times since 1886. The weather service in Milwaukee said Cristobal is expected to be only the fourth Atlantic tropical cyclone remnant to move over Wisconsin in its more than 100 years of records. It also said if Cristobal is still technically a tropical depression after it hits the state line, Wisconsin would notch its first tropical depression in the state’s history.
