Cameron Peak Fire crews are bracing for a return of warm, dry and windy conditions for the rest of the week after cooler weather and intermittent rain allowed for minimal fire increase earlier in the week.
West winds are expected to increase over the fire area Wednesday afternoon with winds 15 to 25 mph gusting to 30 mph. It's expected that those conditions will result in more aggressive fire behavior through the weekend and an increase in smoke that could impact air quality in the Fort Collins area.
Tuesday night mapping indicated the fire grew by just 15 acres. The fire is now 23,037 acres with 6% containment, up 1% from the previous day due to better mapping of the western edge of the fire, according to the incident command team.
Crews continue to monitor the fire and work on protecting structures within the fire area along Colorado Highway 14, Manhattan Road, Deadman Road, Laramie River Road, Pingree Park Road, Long Draw Road and areas surrounding the fire perimeter.
