At the Cameron Peak Fire, which reached over 125,000 acres and became the third-largest fire in Colorado’s history, containment on the blaze reached its highest point thus far at 30% Wednesday, according to a live update on Facebook.

According to Shawn Sheldon, the incident commander with the Pacific Northwest Incident Management Team 6, the fire has reached 30% containment around its perimeter.

The fire, which is currently standing at 125,006 acres, reached 27% containment Sept. 21, rising 10% from the day before. However it dropped to 21% earlier this week as the fire grew.

During the live update session Wednesday night, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Joe Shellhammer said the Mullen Fire in south Wyoming, which is currently standing at nearly 97,000 acres, has crossed the Colorado border close to the Jackson County border. Residents have been evacuated from the area by the Sheriff’s Office.

“We are keeping a close eye on that,” Shellhammer said.

He also said that the LCSO made notifications to people whose properties were damaged or destroyed in the Cameron Peak Fire. “If you didn’t hear from us, that’s probably good news,” he said.

Fire managers plan another Facebook update and question-and-answer session on Friday night.
