The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office issued mandatory evacuation orders Friday afternoon for several residential areas because of the Cameron Peak fire.
Residents and businesses in Glacier View (all filings), Red Feather Highlands subdivision and the Lady Moon area have been given evacuation orders “due to immediate and imminent danger,” according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office. “Evacuate the area immediately and as quickly as possible.”
Voluntary evacuation orders are in effect for the Buckhorn Road (CR 44H) from Pennock Pass to County Road 27 because of increased fire behavior, the sheriff’s office said.
The wildfire has burned 104,845 acres, almost 164 square miles, since starting on Aug. 13 in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forest near Cameron Pass and Chambers Lake, according to InciWeb. The fire is 27% contained.
On Friday, a red flag fire warning was posted because of windy, warm and very dry conditions, fire officials said. Winds are out of the west at 40 mph along ridgetops. Weather is expected to cool off a bit on Saturday in the area, but troubling winds are expected through the weekend.
Fire command on Friday afternoon requested that Poudre Valley REA, a local energy provider, shut down Manhattan and Rustic power substations, the utility said. Areas without power are along Manhattan Road, Boy Scout Ranch Road, Rustic to Spencer Heights and Rustic to Kelly Flats.
