Fire management officials reported Tuesday night that they had increased containment of the Cameron Peak Fire to 17%.

The containment increase came at the southeast corner of the fire, near Buckhorn, according to the Cameron Peak Fire Facebook page.

Acreage burned increased by 122 acres, according to the post.

The fire has burned 104,652 acres since it ignited Aug. 13.

Earlier Tuesday fire managers said firefighters were working day and night shifts, and because the fire had burned into more favorable terrain, large air tankers were being used to drop retardant to slow advancement.

Weather in the fire area Tuesday included high-based showers, increased cloud cover and winds were the lightest they have been in the last week with only a few gusts near 20 mph.

Similar conditions are expected Wednesday, although wind direction is expected to change due to a passing trough.

Voluntary evacuations for Glen Haven, the Glen Haven Retreat, Storm Mountain and County Road 43 were lifted Tuesday.

Mandatory evacuation orders remained in place for Red Feather Lakes and Crystal Lakes, and voluntary evacuation orders are in place for Glacier View filings, the Lady Moon area and Magic Sky Ranch area.

The fire is burning about 15 miles southwest of Red Feather Lakes.

The cause is still under investigation.
