Boulder Shelter for the Homeless to open Tuesday if severe weather comes - The Daily Camera

With a drop of nearly 50 degrees in temperature, and snow forecast for Tuesday, the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless is prepared to open its doors if needed.

The severe weather shelter does not typically open until Oct. 1, but the shelter is able to have about 30 additional beds Tuesday night, according to an email sent to the Boulder City Council from Director of Housing and Human Services Kurt Firnhaber.

“We have tracked this through the day, and at this point the forecast seems to remain unchanged,” stated the email, sent at 5:30 p.m. Friday. “While it is very unusual to trigger the opening of the severe weather shelter prior to October 1, (Boulder Shelter for the Homeless) will be opening if weather conditions meet the existing triggers for Tuesday night.”.

There is a community process for informing individuals in the community who are homeless, the email stated.
