Peak Performance Compounding Inc. has grown in its first year in business.
The Leominster, Mass.-based compounding firm has added machinery in its first year in business and now plans to add production space. Peak opened with two twin-screw extrusion lines and has added two more.
President Todd Marchand said in a phone interview that an additional line may be installed in early 2021.
Peak now occupies 10,000 square feet but plans to add another 8,000 square feet later this year for premixing and storage. The firm also has increased its drying capabilities and is in the process of adding a room for color matching and R&D.
The company recently obtained ISO certifications for medical and industrial production.
"Implementing ISO standards from the very beginning creates a foundation for Peak to grow within these high-quality standards," Marchand said in a news release.
"The medical and high-end industrial markets will be our focus," he added. "We'll offer a service-based compounding option with no minimum run sizes."
Peak opened in September 2019 and offers pre-colored, high-quality compounds, with twin-screw technology that can process a wide range of resins, compounds and filled materials. The 10-employee company can offer custom formulating, custom coloring and toll processing with customer-specified ingredients.
Peak also offers pellet or dry powder blending, pellet pulverizing and material testing. Officials said that the firm's founders launched the company to offer a service-oriented option for companies looking to fill their compounding requirements.
The COVID-19 pandemic would have been a challenge for a long-running company, much less one in its first year like Peak. Marchand said the firm's business slowed down for a month or two because of the pandemic, but "has ramped up" since June.
Peak was deemed an essential business and was able to stay open. The firm's materials are used in catheter tubing and medical device components.
Peak's owners include industry veterans Marchand, Robert Tocci Jr., Michael Carota and Jonas Angus. Marchand, Tocci Jr. and Carota also have ownership stakes in Aaron Industries, a recycled resin compounder also located in Leominster. Peak shares production space with Aaron.
