Tunnel at Ely's Peak closed due to falling rocks - CBS 3 Duluth

gemerlapbulan.blogspot.com

DULUTH, MN-- Hikers and climbers looking to take advantage of the nice stretch of weather will not be able to explore the tunnel at Ely's Peak for a couple of weeks.

City officials say the well-known tunnel at Ely's Peak, as well as a few hiking and climbing routes, will be closed due to falling rocks.

Contractors are in the process of rock-scaling, meaning they are removing any loose or dangerous rocks. This is expected to last until mid-June.

City officials say this work is a part of the DWP Mini-Master Plan.

Signage has been posted on Becks Road near the Superior Hiking Trail parking, as well as on the trail leading up to the tunnel.

According to city officials, there are other safer trail options to avoid the falling rocks.

To meet the goals of the project, officials say work is expected to be loud due to the necessary drilling equipment.
