Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms in central and southern MN and western WI, before sunset - KSTP

Jonathan says isolated strong to severe storms possible Wednesday afternoon and evening

Good evening! As a slow-moving cold front continues to push southward through central then southern Minnesota, isolated strong to severe storms are possible. Sunset tonight is at 8:28 PM, and I don’t anticipate the potential for severe storms the farther away we move from daylight hours. As I write this, there are some storms developing across southwestern and central Minnesota that could strengthen to a few strong storms before sunset.

As the cold front tracks towards the Iowa border, it will stall out tomorrow. This stationary front will begin to lift will back north as a warm front Thursday evening. By evening into the overnight hours severe storms are possible across west-southwest Minnesota, closer to the warm front. There will be a weakening trend as storms track eastward overnight Thursday into Friday morning. Much of the daytime Friday stays dry, but storms redevelop late afternoon and Friday evening, with isolated severe storms again at that time (mainly before 10 PM). Most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin could see about 0.25″-0.75″ of rain overnight Thursday through Friday evening. Localized higher rainfall totals are expected.

Have a wonderful night!
