The atmosphere is ripe for strong to severe thunderstorms this Friday afternoon and evening.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. for a large part of eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
The most likely timing window for storms around the greater Twin Cities appears to be between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday evening. Severe cells may pack hail up to 2 inches in diameter and 70 mph winds in the watch zone.

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of Northeast Iowa Southeast and central Minnesota Western Wisconsin
* Effective this Friday afternoon and evening from 225 PM until 1000 PM CDT.
* Primary threats include... Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
SUMMARY...Several strong to severe thunderstorm clusters are forecast to develop and pose a risk for large hail and damaging gusts. A few supercells are also possible and may pose a locally higher hail risk. The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 85 statute miles east and west of a line from 55 miles northeast of Saint Cloud MN to 50 miles south southwest of La Crosse WI.
