A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for most of our area until midnight.
It's another steamy and stormy Saturday, and we are on Yellow Alert. This alert has been enacted due to the threat of strong-to-severe thunderstorms that may occur from now through the overnight hours into early Sunday morning.
So far, most of the thunderstorms in our area have been sub-severe. The showers/storms will come in waves, with one little wave moving through now, and subsequent rounds are expected after 6 p.m. The strongest wave looks to approach by the midnight hour.
Hazards with these storms include damaging winds, hail, heavy downpours and even a tornado or two. Damaging winds appear to be the greatest threat associated with today's storms.
A Tornado Watch has been issued through 9 p.m. that only includes Sullivan County at this time but may be extended farther east later.
This year has seen numerous tornadoes touch down across our area, with New Jersey especially being hit hard.
Given the very humid airmass in place, flash flooding can occur with any of these storms as well. Areas to the north and west of the city have the highest chance of seeing any of aforementioned hazards.
Tonight's lows will range from the upper 60s to the lower 70s, with very muggy conditions.
After morning thunderstorms, skies clear out by Sunday afternoon. Highs will top out in the mid to upper 80s with humidity lowering throughout the day.
