Severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. for most of northern and central Minnesota - MPR News

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for most of central and northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin until 10 p.m.

A cold front crossing Minnesota is triggering strong to severe storms. Individual storms will likely produce large hail and potentially damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. Tornadoes are also possible in and near the watch zone.

315 PM CDT Wed Jul 19 2023 The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of Northeast Minnesota Northwest Wisconsin Lake Superior

* Effective this Wednesday afternoon and evening from 315 PM until 1000 PM CDT.

* Primary threats include... Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible A tornado or two possible

SUMMARY...Thunderstorms are increasing in coverage and intensity over northern Minnesota. These storms will track eastward through the afternoon and early evening, posing a risk of large hail and damaging winds. The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 55 statute miles east and west of a line from 40 miles west northwest of International Falls MN to 95 miles south of Duluth MN.
