Cripple Creek, Colo. (KKTV) - There are multiple broken windows and downed phone lines after a severe storm passed through the city of Cripple Creek Friday afternoon.
Cripple Creek Police tell 11 News that officers have observed broken phone and cable lines, including some over cars. Windshields on vehicles and on homes were also reportedly damaged when hail pounded the area.
Cripple Creek Police Chief Charles Bright told 11 News that at least quarter-sized hail started falling in the area at around 5:30 p.m. and that he saw about three inches of hail accumulation in the streets on Friday night. He said the city is used to storms, but this one hit hard.
“It makes me sick to my stomach, because I live here and I’ve got personal vehicles and personal property here that’s at risk,” Bright said. “The city’s got a lot of property and these vehicles sitting out here that sustained quite a bit of damage, so yeah, it hurts.”
The city reached out to CenturyLink to assess the damage, and their crews were working to respond to reports of communication lines that had been knocked off of power poles.
When our crews spoke with Chief Bright Friday evening, the city was still working to figure out just how much damage had been caused by the storm.
