PITTSBURGH — Severe thunderstorms moved through our area Saturday afternoon, leaving behind damaging and knocking power out to tens of thousands of people.

First Energy outages:

Allegheny: 14,205

Armstrong: 337

Fayette: 831

Washington: 16,366:

Westmoreland: 5,519

UPDATE 3:45 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Fayette and Westmoreland counties until 4:30 p.m.

UPDATE 3:47 p.m.

Over 55,000 people are without power across the area as strong storms continue to move through.

Duquesne Light is reporting that 27,004 customers are experiencing power outages.

West Penn Power is reporting the following outages:

Allegheny: 13,862

Washington: 16,739

Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for parts of Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Indiana, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland Counties until 3:45 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Allegheny, Beaver and Washington counties until 2:30 p.m.

Practice heat safety and wear your sunscreen today. Highs will be in the low 90s today and mid-90s tomorrow. The heat index will be close to 100 Sunday afternoon.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Allegheny, Beaver, Lawrence and Washington Counties until 6 p.m. A Watch means conditions are favorable for strong thunderstorms that could bring damaging wind or large hail.

Storms come this afternoon and may be strong at times. Sunday’s storms come late in the day and may be severe, including damaging wind gusts.

The start of the new work week will be cooler with highs in the low 80s.
