On a scale of 2 out of 5, much of eastern New York State, north of New York City, is in a slight risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. This means there could be a few severe storms that prompt warnings.
New York City boroughs are in a marginal risk for severe storms, which means stronger storms should be more isolated.
The highest concern within storms is damaging wind gusts over 58 mph and isolated tornadoes. There is also the possibility of heavy rainfall, downpours that may lead to poor drainage floods and ponding or isolated flash flooding.
Be on the lookout this afternoon for on-and-off clusters of strong thunderstorms. The severe weather risk should wind down once we get past 9 p.m. this evening.
