What a wacky week of weather for the Northeast, and it isn’t over yet! We’ve got the potential for record temperatures and severe weather Sunday before colder air and snow chances arrive on Monday into Tuesday.
First up is the opportunity for severe storms on Sunday across New York and northern New England. You may have noticed the warmer temperatures today, that was as a warm front came into the area. Behind it, a cold front will fire up the potential for a few showers and thunderstorms.
The timing will primarily be this evening, with gusty winds as our primary concern.
By 9 PM just a few showers and thunderstorms will be lingering for New England and the Capitol Region of New York.
More widespread then the severe weather is the potential for record temps today! Many of us are 20-30° above average for high temps today.
Soak it in … this won’t last long as we snap back to reality as early as Monday for western New York and by Tuesday for most of the I-95 corridor.
On Monday, a developing low in the central Plains will move into the Northeast, providing us with the opportunity for more wet weather. However, more cold air gets wrapped into the next system so we anticipate more of a mix and snow potential along and north of I-90.
Steady snow will impact northern New York and New England through the midday and afternoon hours on Monday. What a far cry from record heat on Sunday.
Meanwhile, most of the I-95 corridor will see heavy rainfall and the potential for isolated flooding. Be prepared for the heaviest rainfall just in time for the evening drive.
The front clears out late Monday night and early Tuesday morning. We have the potential for a few lake effect snow showers back behind the front into Tuesday morning.
In terms of snow potential, accumulations will be light. Heavy rain and isolated flooding will be a more widespread concern.
