Keep an eye on the weather today.
Strong to severe storms will be possible through the evening hours as a cold front moves into the state, according to the National Weather Service.
Wind gusts up to 60 mph will be possible, along with hail and heavy rain. A tornado is also not out of the question, according to forecasters.
Storms were moving across parts of Alabama as of 10 a.m., and the line will progress southward and eastward through the day.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center updated its severe weather outlook at 10:30 a.m. Monday and removed parts of north Alabama from any severe weather risk.
Storms have already moved through that area, producing gusty winds and scattered power outages.
A slight risk for storms remains for parts of eastern and central Alabama (see the map at the top of this post).
A slight risk is Level 2 out of 5 and means that scattered severe storms will be possible.
Part of west Alabama and much of central and south Alabama still has a marginal risk for severe weather, which is Level 1. A marginal risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible.
Storms will be possible in the southwest and southeast corners of Alabama, but no severe weather is expected.
The rain isn’t going anywhere this week, according to the weather service.
The front is expected to stall to the south, then move back northward on Tuesday as a warm front, again causing rain to develop across parts of the state.
Rain will linger into Wednesday as well, and parts of the state could get up to 2 inches before it’s over.
Another front is expected by Friday, and that one will bring a blast of winter with it by Friday night.
Strong storms could again be possible on Friday as the front approaches, and forecasters will be watching closely in case the rain changes over to a few snowflakes late Friday into Saturday morning. No accumulations are expected.
