Severe Weather Threat Returns Monday & Tuesday - WeatherNation

Chances for severe weather look to return to the South and Southeastern United States on Monday and Tuesday. A strong trough and associated frontal system is expected to dig across the Plains on Monday, bringing a severe weather risk to the ArkLaTex before moving into the Southeast on Tuesaday.

Sufficient warm air and moisture are expected to allow for increasing instability across the region Monday afternoon into Tuesday. As wind shear increases ahead of the trough, strong and severe storms appear likely.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has already highlighted two areas for severe weather potential. Outlooks issued in the day 4-8 time range indicate high confidence that at least scattered severe storms are expected. Monday’s risk is focused across the ArkLaTex, while on Tuesday storms are expected across the Deep South into northern Florida.

In addition to numerous severe storms, heavy rain is expected to pool along the front, primarily in Central and Northern Florida. This could lead to a flood risk on Tuesday as the system moves through the region.

The Weather Prediction Center has highlighted the area below for heavy rainfall potential on Tuesday.

Forecast details may still change considerably with this system given the amount of time before it begins to impact these regions.
