NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -Nebraska severe weather awareness week is March 21st through March 25. The week raises awareness about the preparations necessary for Nebraskans as severe weather season approaches.
“Now is the time to be ready and know what to do when things come your way,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Samuel Meltzer.
The severe weather season in Nebraska is from April to June. Nebraskans should be concerned with severe thunderstorms, hail, lightning, tornadoes and flash floods.
The National Weather Services classifies storms as severe when winds gust reaches 58 miles per hour and/or hail is the size of a U.S. quarter.
