The Cameron Peak Fire remained stable in size, but a storm system moving into the area has the attention of fire crews.

A storm coming into the area of the fire Saturday is expected to include breezy conditions, thunderstorms and possible dry lightning, according to an update Saturday morning.

Temperatures at the fire for the next few days are expected to drop to the 60s with humidity remaining in the high teens. Winds are expected to shift to the southeast Sunday and southwest through next week.

The fire remains at 102,596 acres and is 15% contained.

Containment efforts

Firefighters worked Friday to reduce fuels and create indirect fire lines on the north side in the Crystal Lakes, Red Feather and Glacier View subdivisions as well as the southern side in Estes Park and Glen Haven.

A lot of resources have been moved to the "thumb" of the fire to control that area.

There are three Type I helicopters and five single-engine air tankers working to drop fire and fire retardant in that north area, said planning operations trainee Cody Carlson in a video update Saturday morning.

Crews continued with patrol and mop-up on containment lines near Pingree Park Road, Long Draw Road and Buckhorn Road towards Comanche Reservoir and on the west side.

Carlson said officials hope to be able to add official containment in parts of the southern edge of the fire this weekend.

Air quality

An "action day advisory" is in effect until 4 p.m. Saturday due to poor air quality from the smoke. The area included is the Front Range corridor from Douglas County north to Larimer and Weld counties.

The southwest winds should clear conditions over some of the area by the afternoon.

Sunday is expected to be a moderate air quality day in Fort Collins.
