Update, 7:56 p.m.: The Cameron Peak Fire is now 104,157 acres after growing more than 1,500 acres Sunday. It remains 15% contained.

As of Sunday night, 779 personnel were working the fire. Multiple aircraft are assisting firefighting efforts.

Winds Sunday were between 15-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph or more, the incident command team posted on InciWeb. Coupled with lower humidity, the day's windy conditions "made for challenging weather on the fire."

Monday and Tuesday are expected to be less windy with "an increase in moisture and afternoon instability." Tuesday, the chance for rain is up to 50%, with less than a tenth of an inch expected, according to InciWeb.

Update, 6:50 p.m.: Red Cross of Colorado opened an evacuation center to help evacuated Red Feather Lakes and Crystal Lakes residents. Those needing shelter should go to Cache La Poudre Middle School, 3515 W. County Road 54G in Laporte, or call 970-481-1243.

Update, 5:45 p.m.: Evacuations along Manhattan Road and in the Crystal Lakes have been completed and evacuations in Red Feather Lakes are about halfway through, Larimer County Sheriff's Office Captain Joe Shellhammer told the Coloradoan.

Shellhammer expected Red Feather Lakes evacuations to be complete "within a couple hours."

A roadblock is in place at Larimer County Road 74E (Red Feather Lakes Road) and Larimer County Road 37, the sheriff's office tweeted, and only residents in voluntary evacuation areas along County Road 74E with proper credentials will be allowed to travel westbound on the road. The road is open to eastbound traffic for those evacuating.

Shellhammer said an updated size estimate for the Cameron Peak Fire was not available Sunday evening.

As of 5:45 p.m., there have been no civilian or firefighter injuries.

Glacier View remains under a voluntary evacuation. Shellhammer said it's "hard to tell" if there will be more mandatory evacuations due to fire activity Sunday.

"We'll have to see what it does," Shellhammer said. "The winds are starting to die down, so that might help us out. Glacier View would be the next ones if we had to do that, but we'll wait and see."

Shellhammer said evacuation strike teams will be reset to be set up for Glacier View evacuations "if we need to do it," Shellhammer said.

The Cameron Peak Fire Joint Information Center is open until 10 p.m. Sunday, according to an emergency alert. Call 970-980-2500 to hear a recording with current information about the fire and/or speak to someone about evacuations and road closures.

Original story: Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for Red Feather Lakes and Crystal Lakes due to "immediate and imminent danger" from the Cameron Peak Fire.

The mandatory evacuations issued Sunday also include Manhattan Road down to Colorado Highway 14 and the Shambhala Mountain Center area.

Residents and business occupants are advised to leave the area immediately, according to the emergency alert from Larimer County Sheriff's Office.

"Do not delay leaving to gather belongings or make efforts to protect your home or business," the alert said. "Evacuating immediately not only supports your safety, but also allows emergency crews better access to the area."

Voluntary evacuations were ordered for Glacier View filings as well as the Lady Moon and Magic Sky Ranch areas.

Those under the voluntary evacuation order are encouraged to evacuate if "they are concerned for their safety, feel they need additional time to exit the area, or have health conditions that may be aggravated by this incident. You are encouraged to move livestock and pets out of the area and to prepare for mandatory evacuations."

Those needing help finding shelter, whether under mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders, should go to Cache La Poudre Middle School, 3515 W. County Road 54G.

Winds drive Cameron Peak fire east

“Gusty winds from the southwest caused the fire to become very active this afternoon on the northwest perimeter ... and firefighters were pulled back to their safety zones,” according to a Facebook post by the official Cameron Peak Fire page.

The fire, which is moving east, crossed the Killpecker containment line and near Middle Bald Mountain, according to post. Indirect lines along Deadman and Manhattan roads "were developed in preparation for this type of event," the fire team wrote.

Multiple air resources were working to drop water and retardant on the fire Sunday afternoon, the post said.

How much the fire grew and whether any containment was lost was not updated as of 4 p.m. Sunday. As of Sunday morning’s update, the fire remained at 102,596 acres with 15% containment, and crews had hoped to continue containment efforts Sunday.
