Magdalena, NM; June 17, 2020 – For Immediate Release. The Vics Peak Fire, in the Apache Kid Wilderness, San Mateo Mountains, located on the Magdalena Ranger District, is a lightning caused fire that began Monday, June 15, 2020, at approimately 10 acres. Resources include one Wildland Fire Module, and 1 Type 6 Engine.
This fire is in monitor status. Weather conditions, predicted fire behavior, and resources are currently aligned to meet these objectives.
The fire is burning in Ponderosa Pine, mixed-conifer, grass, and brush. It is currently burning at a low intensity, creeping along the ground, and backing down ridge lines.
At this time, there are closures in place for Springtime Campground. There are trail closures within the fire perimeter for the Trail 50 and Trail 86. The weather forecast calls for hotter and drier conditions today. Smoke will be visible from New Mexico 52, New Mexico 107, and I-25 south of Socorro, NM as fire behavior increases. The fire size is likely to increase in these conditions throughout the end of the week.
