Severe Risk Building for the Northern High Plains - WeatherNation

Severe storms will be likely over the Northern High Plains the next few days. Thursday could be a big severe weather event for areas of Montana and North Dakota.  Here is that latest severe forecast.

The risk for severe thunderstorms on Wednesday is focused in central Montana. An upper level system will move into the region as modest instability and humidity remains over the area. This will likely lead to a few severe thunderstorms with strong wind gusts and large hail.

All modes of severe weather will be possible including the risk for isolated tornadoes.  These severe threats will be confined across western and central Montana.

The severe risk will be building during the afternoon and evening.  The severe risk is isolated so many areas in this region won’t even see a severe storm.

Thursday’s severe outlook is much stronger with some parts of the High Plains under the risk for numerous thunderstorms. Cities like Rapid City and Glendive will need to have a severe plan in place.

All modes of severe will be in the forecast, but the significant risk is what stands out with this forecast.  Significant wind and hail will be possible with the storms that fire up Thursday.

The timing for the storms will throughout the day on Thursday with the chance for lingering strong storms for early Friday morning.
