Localized Upper Midwest Severe Chances - WeatherNation

Wednesday

The instability in the warm sector of the system will be where we focus on for the isolated risk. Notice the oranges and yellows in Minnesota – this is where there could be isolated storm development throughout the day today, Wednesday

Thursday

As the cold front swings through, the severe storms will track eastward with it. This means northern Wisconsin could be looking at strong and severe storms by Thursday.

Wednesday

The Marginal risk region is shaded in the darker green for storms to have wind upwards of 58 mph and 1″ diameter hail embedded. This does not mean the surrounding areas won’t see storms, this means these areas could see the strongest of the activity.

Thursday

The marginal risk for northern Wisconsin is for the isolated storm chances that linger into the day Thursday. Strong wind and hail are the primary threats for any development.

The storms ignite by daytime heating in Minnesota this afternoon and could linger into the evening. This line of storms looks to develop near the I-29 and will be moving west to east. Most of them should fade overnight.

The storms then redevelop in northern Wisconsin during the day on Thursday. It isn’t going to be a widespread event, but just know the storms that do develop could have some  strength to them.

The flooding concern is in northern Minnesota. These areas have seen several rounds of intense thunderstorms the last few days so it won’t take much for a quick but heavy downpour to lead to a flash flooding event.
