Severe: Sunday in Midwest, Monday in Maine - WeatherNation

A strong slow moving cold front will be the focus for isolated strong and severe storms today and tonight and then following that front, severe storms may linger into the extreme northeast by Monday.

Many areas will see storms and rain today, but it will be areas from Eastern Michigan to Oklahoma where storms could be severe with damaging winds and small hail.

The main threat with Sunday’s storms will be damaging winds. This means wind gusts over 58 mph will be possible within today’s activity.

Forecast

The timing for Sunday’s storms will continue through the afternoon and into the evening. The severe risk will be isolated, but heavy rain and damaging winds will be likely with this forecast.  Keep checking with WeatherNation for more updates on our severe weather risk.

A few lingering storms will be possible overnight through the Kansas City metro close to the center of rotation. Expect frequent lightning and heavy rain through the overnight hours.

As we follow this elongated front, another low pressure center along the wave will encourage some stronger storms into the midday/afternoon hours through Maine. Temperatures will be very hot here which will build instability and as this boundary moves through it may instigated some stronger storms.

Early in the morning there are still some lingering showers and storms in the Midwestern United States through Illinois and Iowa.

By midday, we crank out some storms in Maine and northern New England.
