Severe storms, cooler temperatures take us to the end of the week - KSNB Local 4

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Some rain and thunderstorms remain in far Southeast Nebraska this morning. Much of the area is dry with a few showers in the northwest. For many, the day will be dry with chances for rain increasing late this afternoon and this evening. Meanwhile, isolated showers and thunderstorms today cannot be ruled out. It’ll be a cooler day with highs in the 80s and lower 90s with the warmest temperatures near and south of the Nebraska and Kansas border. Timing and placement of thunderstorm chances this afternoon and this evening are difficult to predict. The most likely outcome is that thunderstorms will develop later this afternoon and this evening with the most likely placement south and east of the Tri-Cities. In fact, those areas have the chance to see some of the worst severe storms. Very large hail over 2 inches in diameter, wind gusts of 70 mph or greater, and even a few tornadoes will be possible. While other severe weather is possible elsewhere, the chances are lower. Some other thunderstorms could move across the area from west to east through the overnight hours. These showers and thunderstorms may continue right into Friday morning for some. In fact there will be a chance for more rain and thunderstorms Friday and even Friday night. Some severe storms are still likely, especially in the southeast. Large hail and damaging wind gusts are the biggest threat, but an isolated tornado is possible. High temperatures on Friday will be cooler yet from the lower 70s northwest to the mid 80s southeast.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms will still be possible this weekend, but much of the weekend will be dry and rather pleasant. Highs on Saturday will mostly be in the mid to upper 70s. Sunday’s highs will be similar in the mid to upper 70s and lower 80s. There are still some slight chances for rain and thunderstorms through the middle of next week, but it is likely that the bulk of that time next week will be dry. Highs on Monday will barely be warmer than the weekend in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Highs on Tuesday look to be in the low to mid 80s. Highs on Wednesday may be just a bit warmer with mostly mid 80s.
