HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Even more heat builds in for today as temperatures top out between 95° and 105°. Much of the day will be mainly sunny with breezy southerly winds of 10 to 20 mph. Showers and thunderstorms may begin to fire out west (and possibly up north) later this afternoon, then push east this evening and overnight. Many won’t see thunderstorms until after dark and some could see them during the late night hours. Severe weather will be possible with damaging wind gusts and large hail the threats. Low temperatures tomorrow morning will drop into the 60s in the north and west with low to mid 70s farther southeast.
While some rain may linger into Thursday morning, most will get a break from the rain much of the morning. Temperatures will be cooler as they warm up into the upper 80s and lower 90s for most. There could be a bit more heat in Kansas with temperatures well into the 90s. Unlike Wednesday, thunderstorms are more likely to fire up around the area during the afternoon. Placement of these will be highly dependent on how thunderstorms go the night before. While still uncertain, it currently looks like the best chance for thunderstorms will be in Southeast Nebraska and Western Nebraska. More thunderstorms will be possible around the area Thursday night. Damaging wind gusts, large hail, and even an isolated tornado are all possible. Locally heavy rainfall will also be possible for some. Showers and thunderstorms may continue right into Friday morning for some.
Friday is shaping up to be a cooler day with a continued chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be anywhere from the lower 70s northwest to the upper 80s southeast. Some severe storms will still be possible in our southern and eastern counties. Some locally heavy rainfall will also be possible. Some rain and thunderstorms may even stick around into Friday night.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms will still be possible this weekend, but much of the weekend will be dry and rather pleasant. Highs on Saturday will mostly be in the mid to upper 70s and lower 80s. Sunday may be slightly warmer in the upper 70s and low to mid 80s. Early next week, mostly dry weather is expected, but there may be some rain in Eastern Nebraska. Highs on Monday will be in the low to mid 80s. Widespread 80s are expected on Tuesday.
