Isolated severe storms possible in Alabama today - and more rain - AL.com

Strong to severe storms will be possible in parts of Alabama today, according to forecasters.

And more rain -- enough to raise flooding concerns once again.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center pas put nearly all of Alabama in a marginal risk for severe weather today. It’s been expanded from earlier this morning to include all but the northeast corner of the state.

A marginal risk is Level 1 out of 5 and means isolated severe storms will be possible.

The strongest storms could have winds up to 60 mph and hail, along with a lot of lighting.

The National Weather Service said it will also be looking out for training storms, or multiple storms that move over the same areas. Those will raise the risk for flash flooding on ground that is already soggy.

Storms will be most likely during the afternoon and evening hours but could last into tonight, according to forecasters.

Rain and storms will be possible on Sunday as well, but the storm coverage will be more widespread, according to forecasters.

Look for continued hot and muggy conditions, with the heat index approaching 100 degrees in many areas through at least Sunday.

Storms on Sunday could also be strong, but no widespread severe weather is expected across Alabama so far.
