Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Washington County expires, tornado watch remains in place - KSTP

Multiple tornado warnings that were also issued Wednesday afternoon have also expired. 

However, a tornado warning remains in effect for Fillmore, Houston, Wabasha, Winona, Dakota and Goodhue counties. 

The tornado warning is in effect until 8 p.m. 


UPDATE: A tornado watch has been issued for several Minnesota and western Wisconsin counties Wednesday night.

The affected counties include: Dakota, Dodge, Faribault, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca and Winona counties. The affected Wisconsin counties are Buffalo, Pepin and Pierce.

The watches are in effect until 8 p.m.

Showers and thunderstorms are quickly moving northeast through the metro Wednesday, which is expected to continue throughout the afternoon.

KSTP Meteorologist Sam Ryan says there is a chance for an isolated tornado Wednesday evening in parts of Minnesota from the south metro to the southeastern corner of the state. Some hail is also possible.

Ryan says the greatest risk for that severe weather is between 3-7 p.m.

Meanwhile, northern Minnesota on a line from Brainerd to Duluth could see 3-8 inches of snow.
